Barry Eigen exhibit

Fifteen acrylic paintings by artist Barry Eigen will be exhibited during the month of December at the Lake Travis Community Library. A member of Lakeway Painters, Eigen paints every Wednesday morning at the Lakeway Activity Center with 20 to 30 other artists. He paints primarily in acrylics on canvas, but has experimented with varied styles and subject matter. Landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and abstracts are all of interest to Eigen.
“I truly love painting.” he said. “I am particularly motivated by the development of nuance in color, tone, and texture. For me, the excitement of painting is portraying the familiar as I see it, or imagine seeing it. I strive to create work that inspires an emotional as well as an intellectual response in those who view it.”
Eigen does not have a typical art background. He was a weekend painter for over 50 years and made his living traveling coast to coast, Monday through Friday, in a medical equipment supply business. In December of 2012, Eigen finally retired to do what he says he loves most—he now paints full time.
“In a remarkable turn of events. I now fly anywhere my imagination takes me and I never have to board a plane,” said Eigen.
Along with the Lakeway Painters, Eigen is also a regular member of the Austin Visual Arts Association and serves on the board of the Creative Arts Society of Austin. Eigen will host a reception on Sunday, December 10th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Lake Travis Community Library. The community is invited to attend.
