PEC upgrades to affect electric services

Share

Due to several planned power outages by the Pedernales Electric Cooperative on Oct. 10, Oct. 11, and Oct. 17, several City of Lakeway facilities will have limited hours on those days.

PEC crews will perform system improvements throughout the city from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10 and Oct. 11, to better serve the energy needs of about 1,800 of their members in Lakeway. Crews will continue to upgrade their system again from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 17, with about 700 PEC members impacted.

The improvements will require staggered interruptions of electric service, and PEC is mailing letters with more information to members who will be affected by the upgrades.

Due to the power outages, some city facilities will be temporarily closed.

  • Lakeway Municipal Court, 104 Cross Creek, will be closed on Oct. 10 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., but will be open from 1-8 p.m. to hold court that evening.
  • On Oct. 11, Lakeway Heritage Center, 963 Lohmans Crossing, will be closed from 9 a.m.-noon and will reopen on that day from 1-3:30 p.m.
  • Lakeway City Hall, 1102 Lohmans Crossing, will be closed from 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 17, but will be open for business later that day from noon-5 p.m. Building inspections will not begin until after noon on that day.
  • Lakeway Activity Center, 105 Cross Creek, will be closed Oct. 17 from 8 a.m.-noon and will be open from noon-5 p.m. that day.
  • Restrooms at Hamilton Greenbelt and Lakeway City Park will be closed from 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 10 and Oct. 11, respectively.
  • Lakeway Police and Public Works departments and Lakeway Swim Center will remain open all three days and will not be affected by the outages.

“Projects like this underscore our commitment to system reliability and our members,” said Virgil Maldonado, a PEC director of regional operations. “Our crews are will be manually adjusting transformers to accommodate increased voltage on PEC distribution lines so our members in Lakeway can continue to experience reliable service. We’ve scheduled the conversions to minimize the planned outages as much as possible.”

Crews from PEC’s Oak Hill office will need access to PEC equipment on members’ property to complete these improvements, as workers will climb poles and use bucket trucks to access transformers to perform the upgrades. PEC has requested that affected members leave gates unlocked and make sure animals are restrained. In the event of inclement weather, the work will be rescheduled for the next day.

Every effort will be made to restore service as quickly as possible. If electricity has not been restored by 2 p.m. Oct. 10 and 11 or by 4 p.m. Oct. 17, members should call PEC’s Oak Hill District at 800-868-4791, ext. 7920.
